Hooray! The New York Times’ new Global Edition is a step forward for U.S. news! Since my first travels abroad, I’ve lamented that our news media focus too much on American news. Not that they’re wholly to blame (they sell what we buy, right?), but I think their narrow scope contributes to Americans’ self-centeredness and general ignorance of what’s going on outside our borders, especially if it doesn’t affect us directly. Don’t get me wrong — U.S. news is big news! But things also happen elsewhere.
